Useful Packing Tips |
 |
 |
|
- Plan your packing and leave yourself plenty of time. Careful
packing will avoid breakages and make things a lot easier when it
comes to unpacking!
- Make sure you have a good supply of strong boxes.
- You'll also need parcel tape, masking tape, marker pens,
packing paper (old newspapers will be fine) and perhaps some
bubblewrap for particularly fragile items.
- Any items with doors should have them taped shut with masking
tape. Remember to make sure fridges and freezers are fully emptied
especially if going into storage.
- If possible, obtain mattress covers to protect them during
moving.
- It's worth putting identifying marks on matching joints if
dismantling beds and wardrobes to aid rebuilding.
- Remember not to overload boxes especially with items such as
books. Fill gaps with screwed-up newspaper to avoid damage during
transit. Always bend your knees when attempting to lift heavy
objects.
- List contents of all boxes with a marker pen.
- Ensure items going into storage are completely dry especially
clothes, linen and curtains.
- Protect chair legs by wrapping with bubblewrap or packing
paper. For upholstered furniture, obtain chair / sofa covers.
- Clothing that ordinarily hangs in a wardrobe should be packed
in a wardrobe carton.
- Take your time when packing dishes. Wrap each one with packing
tissue and cushion them in the carton with crumpled packing paper.
Keep packed boxes under 15 kilos for easy handling and safe
transportation.
- Pack glasses carefully. Wrap with tissue and pad with crumpled
packing paper just like dishes.
- Pack lamp shades in individual boxes with plenty of paper for
padding. Lamp bases ride securely in bureau drawers, freezers and
washing machines. For safety, pad them well with towels and
blankets.
